The Club, Official named "The POP BOTS", met on Wednesday to learn about the tools they will be using and how to properly use them. Mentor, Scott Cornelius demonstrated each tool and described its purpose. Students were given an opportunity to use the power drill to screw and unscrew into a wood platform. It was great to see how students handled the tools and worked through the challenges of using the equipment for the first time. Several veteran robotics students helped by offering suggestions of ways to gain control of the screw and managing the torque of the power drill. Needless to say, safety comes first and all members of the club are responsible to watching out for the safety of others. Keeping the environment clear of hazards, using safety goggles at all times and using the equipment properly was the focus. Several times students reminded each other of these important considerations as they worked together.
The club has a great mix of personalities and experience. Two members (7th graders) are returning for their second or third years with the robotics team. They are wonderful teachers for the other students. Three seventh graders and ten 6th graders make up the club.
