As our school enters our 7th year of BEST Robotics competitions, we are faced with new and exciting challenges. First, while our local Hub, (University of Alabama, Birmingham (UAB)) regroups, we are very happy to be joining the Shelton State Community College Hub this season. Our recent trip to their school in Tuscaloosa was a great experience for out 15 team members.
Five veteran members have returned to the POP Robotics team and are leading the way to what will be one of our toughest competitions ever. The contest takes critical thinking to new heights (literally) and the team will have to think "out of the box" to reach them.
Some changes to the rules and points will bring new opportunities to all the teams to include even more evidence of the engineering process, creative coding, simulation, and use of CAD software. Students are encouraged to be interactive and produce video posting that promote their work. You can see form the "Bet the Farm" theme that the contest focuses on Farming. Farming remains a viable industry in Alabama and our team has some great ideas about showcasing the wonderful benefits we enjoy from having an abundance of fresh foods near by.
Our team will also stay true to its "roots" and share with other teams in the spirit of giving back to society, which is an important part of everything Prince of Peace Catholic School believes in.
